People who eat foods containing an edible form of nicotine, among which are peppers, tomatoes, potatoes and eggplants, have fewer chances of developing Parkinson’s disease.
However, caution is still necessary, because scientists are not yet sure whether the edible nicotine is responsible for this action. Namely, the actions of the other phytochemicals in these vegetables are yet to be investigated. Also, the greatest benefits are noticed in people who are not smokers. Hence, why nicotine?
How Does Eating Peppers Influence Parkinson’s Disease
So, the connection between the edible nicotine and Parkinson’s is not 100 percent confirmed and still needs to be examined. However, the results so far suggest that edible nicotine has protecting effects when it comes to the development of Parkinson’s disease. The edible nicotine is similar to the one found in cigarettes, but it is much less toxic. So, instead of smoking, you can eat peppers and reduce the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease.
A study examined the health condition of 490 patients, who have been diagnosed with early stage of Parkinson’s disease, and 644 healthy participants, not having any symptoms of this disease.
Is has been concluded that consuming vegetables rich in edible nicotine does not affect the people who already have the disease. But, the likelihood of ever developing Parkinson’s disease reduces when people consume foods that contain small amounts of nicotine.
The best results have been noticed in people who regularly eat peppers, and other foods rich in edible nicotine, and who have never smoked cigarettes, or smoked very rarely. Those who eat peppers at least twice a week have 30 percent less chance of developing Parkinson’s disease.
Even though the results of this research show that edible nicotine is in fact the ingredient responsible for this positive effect against the disease, the science world is not yet sure. Namely, they suspect of this being a domino effect of some kind of complex mechanism that develops due to this ingredient, or it might be some other chemical compound. One possibility is anatabine, a compound that has anti-inflammatory properties.
